Life in Venice, our favourite days out, plus common questions our little guests have about living in the lagoon!

We have had many friends and families staying with us over the years. They are always full of questions about life in Venice – especially the kids who are fascinated by this weird and wonderful city. Do you go everywhere in your boat? Does your house get flooded? What do you do in the weekends? How to you get to school? Where do you do your shopping? Here we give you a glimpse into what it is like living in Venice and the lagoon. We’ll let you know what we’re doing each week and keep you up to date with local festivals and “sagre“.

The Venice carnival is famous – masks, costumes, mystery… But what do real Venetians get up to during Carnival?

The “campo” squares are an essential element of every Venetian kids’ life. It’s where they play & socialize in their free time.

During winter months eerie sirens warn that a high tide is coming. The lagoon creeps into the streets, flooding the city…

Grocery shopping is still largely traditional in Venice – we use street markets, local bakeries, and buy our fish from the neighbours.

Having a “spritz” or “aperitivo” is an essential part of Venetian life. With or without booze it’s a tradition that all locals participate in.

We love the local holidays and sagre (food festivals). There are so many in the Venetian lagoon, from artichoke festivals to boat regattas.
