VECIA GINA
(sant' elena)

If you ask our children what’s their favourite place to eat they always say Vecia Gina! This is a pizzaria in Sant’Elena, which is a green, parky area of Venice. It’s a perfect place to have a pizza (or just a spritz). The menu has lots of interesting pizza toping combinations. In the morning it’s also a nice setting to have a coffee and sit out under the shade of the trees on the terrace. It’s a favourite with the locals as well as tourists. If it’s crowded outside there are often tables inside. The staff are lovely.

You can order food to take-away here. They serve pizza, salads, polenta, and delicious sandwiches. They also have a good selection of fried foods like fried mozzarella balls, onion rings, and “olive all’ascolana” (olives and minced-meat balls), which Italian people usually eat before their pizza.

INSIDER TIP

Pop here to get an ice-cream or ice-lolly for the kids if you’re playing at the nearby park. The sandwiches are also fantastic, especially the one with “porchetta” (roast pork) and mustard on rye bread.

FAMILY FRIENDLINESS

The kids can play in the grass next to the tables and there is plenty of shade. Just make sure they don’t get in the way of customers, waiters, or passers by. There is a playground just 100 metres from the restaurant. Inside the restaurant the walls are filled with signs from all over the world, which our kids love to look at. There’s plenty of room for prams, especially if you’re outside.
