Our children’s favourite ice cream shop!
Without doubt the best gelateria on Lido. Cross the street after you get off the waterbus and it’s just after the church at the start of Gran Viale. This is a wonderful artisan ice cream shop that uses carefully sourced ingredients with no artificial colours. They have all the classics, such as chocolate, dark chocolate (“fondente”), and “stracciatella” (white ice cream filled with chocolate shavings) and they often change the selection, occasionally offering cherry cheesecake or tiramisu.

Remember that every gelataria will do large take away portions, which can be great if you are self-catering and want to eat ice cream at home after dinner. Ask to “portare via” and they will put the ice cream in polystyrene containers to keep cool while you take it home.
If you’re staying on Lido get their free loyalty card to earn yourself a free ice cream after a certain number of purchases.
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
It gets so hot in the summer that ice-cream melts really fast. Ice-cream cones usually lead to tantrums when the ice cream melts and falls off the cone…ordering it in a cup “coppa” is the best option for children (and much less messy). If you need wet wipes to clean up there is a “parafarmacia” next door with lots of children’s products. There’s no where to sit so just grab your ice cream and stroll down the street like the locals do.
In my opinion the owners of Gelido Lato should get a prize for best family-friendly business on Lido after they gave free ice-cream to ALL the local children during trick-or-treat at Halloween!
