APE VERDE PISTACCHIO
(certosa - summer only)

Enjoy some street food on an island with no streets! During summer you can head to Certosa island for an amazing pizza  from Ape Verde Pistacchio. These guys built a wood-fired oven into their small three-wheel Vespa van and serve spectacularly delicious pizzas. You can choose from five different pizzas; a simple margherita (tomato and mozzarella), Etna (with spicy salami), Pachino (cherry tomatoes and mozzarella), the Sicilian specialty “Norma” (fried aubergines and salted ricotta), or Verde Pistacchio (smoked mozzarella and ground pistachio). Order your pizza and eat, picnic style, on the grass or pontoon.

how to get there

Take a waterbus to Certosa Island (4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2). This is a request stop, so when you get on, you must tell the seaman that you want the bus to stop at Certosa. The van is at the northern end of Certosa island, behind the marina and next to a pontoon where locals come to dock their boats and swim in the lagoon during summer.

FAMILY FRIENDLINESS

Certosa island is fantastic for children as there’s lots of space to run, explore, play, and swim. On a hot summer’s day many locals like to cool off with a swim in the lagoon, particularly teenagers or families with young kids.  It is a peaceful island, green and quiet, with views over the lagoon towards Lido, San Pietro, Murano, and Vignole. No one lives in the island but there is a marina, a small hotel with a restaurant and café. The rest of the island  is a huge expanse of green parkland. Your children will really feel like their having an adventure if you bring them here.
