Accident and Emergency “Pronto Soccorso” at the hospital “Ospedale SS. Giovanni e Paolo”: For more serious emergencies this hospital can be reached by foot or by waterbus (lines 5.1, 5.2, 4.1, and 4.2, stop name “Ospedale”). Address: Campo SS. Giovanni, Castello 6777. “Ospedale di Lido”: There is also a small emergency department at the hospital in Lido, but it is extremely small and they don’t have a paediatrics department. They often send children over to the hospital in Venice but in an emergency they will sort out an ambulance transfer if necessary. Address: Lungomare Gabriele D’ Annunzio
Cardiac arrest: There are over 50 semi-automatic defibrillators in public locations around Venice, especially where there are often large numbers of tourists (public places, hotels, shops, medical offices).
NOTE: There is usually a fee for using any medical service in Italy, and this will differ depending on where you reside etc.

"Guardia Medica" on call physicians
During nighttime (hours 2000-0800) there is a telephone number in each district if you need to speak to a doctor in an emergency (although it’s not guaranteed that they’ll speak English).

Pharmacies
If you need medication, there are many “Farmacia” around Venice, just look for a flashing green cross. Note that a “Parafarmacia” is slightly different – here you can buy things like shampoos, baby food, formula and nappies but they don’t sell medications.
Common travel ailments
With children you should be careful of sunstroke and sunburn in Venice during summer, as it is extremely hot. Jellyfish stings are quite common in the sea but rarely need medical attention.
