TRATTORIA da JONNY
(castello)
Jonny’s restaurant is in a quieter part of town where few tourists go, despite it being only a few minutes’ walk behind Saint Mark’s square. We love it here because the dishes are slightly different from the usual Venetian standard menu. For example, last time we went the salt cod (baccala mantecao) was give a modern twist, served with truffles and squash puree. Ingredients are fresh and seasonal, with the menu changing regularly to make use of the best local produce. This is my Dad’s favourite place to eat in Venice at the moment.
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
It’s family friendly, with a children’s menu, and a food quiz to entertain kids (in Italian). The waiting staff are friendly and joke around with the children. If the sun’s out the tables in the square are lovely and you can watch all the locals passing by. Toilets are spotlessly clean. We really love the fact that there are places like this that serve high quality cuisine and welcome children.
