OSTERIA a la SCUELA
(castello)
This is a cute place to pop in for a quick cicchetti although it is quite cramped for kids (but we usually leave our pram on the street outside). It is tucked away in an area with very few tourists, but is only 10 minutes walk from Saint Mark’s square. Here you can see the locals going about their daily life, and join them for a quick aperitivo in a place that still has the atmosphere of a traditional Venetian chiccetteria. A “scuela” is a type of pan and you can see lots of them hanging from the ceiling. You can have a quick cicchetti (meatballs, fried salt cod, fish balls) standing at the bar or on one of the small tables outside. There is also a small room with a few tables for a sit down lunch or dinner – it’s relatively simple food and reasonably priced. Despite it being small they even manage to have live music on Saturday nights.
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
Being a quiet area, it’s fine to leave prams outside in the street, and the toilet is nice, big and clean!
