Al LEON BIANCO
(castello)
This was the first place that I had a spritz in Venice with my husband (well, before he was my husband). I remember it clearly because of the beautiful lion statue in front of the Arsenal – in fact the bar is called the “white lion”. Sitting there was the first moment that I liked Venice – I had been only once before in the height of summer when it was packed with tourists. I stayed in a really touristy part of town and thought that Venice was tacky and overrated. Then, when I met my husband we took a trip to Venice in March. I remember sitting at this bar in Arsenale in the sun watching the locals pass by and it felt like a completely different city to the one I first visited. Lots of our travel advice on Kids In Venice is about discovering this side of Venice.
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
The kids can play around in the square but be careful because there is a lot of water around. Sitting outside there’s a nice view and it’s in quite a calm area.
