CO VINO
(castello)
We have to include this in our blog as it is currently our favourite restaurant in Venice! However, we must confess that this is a place that we only go to with one child at a time. Co Vino is a (very) little gem hidden in the backstreets of Arsenale. The tiny restaurant only has about five or so tables, snuggled up to the open kitchen so you are sitting right in the middle of the action watching the fantastic chefs work away while you eat. They have an innovative seasonal menu that changes regularly and the food is outstanding. The sommelier is attentive and talks you carefully through a wide choice of wines.
We love this place and if you’re a bit bored of the standard Venetian dishes you will find the menu a welcome change. Last time we went (in winter) we had roasted guinea fowl with black truffles.
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
Perhaps this is best for older (and well behaved!) children. It’s so small inside that we probably would not advise going with a pram (and the alley outside is too narrow to leave it there) but older kids will enjoy watching the chefs work and will love the fact that a dessert is always included (you can choose from the set menu of one or two courses, plus dessert). Our eldest child is fascinated by the chefs at work and she often asks to go here. The staff are warm and friendly and speak good English. The toilet is small but spotless.
