ANTICO CALICE
(san marco)
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the center- it’s just around the corner from Rialto (down an alley next to the Disney store). Always friendly, always great food. Many Gondoliers eat there (if you see a taxi driver or a Gondolier eating somewhere that’s the main sign of good food in Venice). The menu is typically Venetian, with classics like “schie” (teeny tiny shrimps from the lagoon), “nero di sepia” (cuttle fish) and “spaghetti alle vongole” (clam pasta). This is place is a massive hit with all of our guests.
INSIDER TIP
The seafood started “antipasto di mare” is particularly delicious and gives a nice selection of local fish.
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
Upstairs they have massive tables if you are a big group. There is a room in front of the toilets where they can store your pram. Toilets are clean. They are always extremely friendly with our children and consequently this is one place that they frequently ask to go for lunch (they always order “spaghetti alle vongole senza peperoncino” clam pasta without chilli).
