AL VECIO PORTAL
(castello)
Al Vecio Portal can be found in a tiny square behind Arsenale. It’s a family run restaurant; parents and son. They originate from Sicily so the food has a Sicilian twist.
They serve pasta and seafood as well as pizza. We particularly like the seafood starter because it’s served warm, which is unusual in Venice. They sometimes serve a delicious plate of marinated raw fish (“pesce crud0”), depending on the season and availability of fish. Have a quick peak at the dessert trolley – you’re sure to find something yummy there!
INSIDER TIP
Tell Pino that you read about the restaurant on kidsinvenice.com and he’ll give you a special treat!
FAMILY FRIENDLINESS
There is seating in the garden out the back or in the square in front of the restaurant, but we also like it inside because the décor is so fun for the kids. In one room there is a huge collection or corkscrews and bottle openers, with musical instruments hanging from the ceiling. In the entrance there is an impressive collection of old sewing machines and ducks! Toilets are small but clean. As they serve pizza as well this makes it a great choice for families because there’s something to keep everyone happy.
