BEACHES IN THE SUMMER

Many visitors are surprised to hear that there are beaches in Venice. In summer, between May and September, almost all the beach clubs on Lido island have play areas for kids. We will soon add a guide to the best beaches in Lido, so please check in to see any updates. For great play areas we recommend “Venezia Spiagge” and the fabulous multi-slide climbing frame at “Paradise Beach”. If you’re coming to Venice in summer you should consider staying in Lido. You can sightsee during the day and then come back to Lido, head to the beach, and have a nice swim to cool off!

The beach clubs are wonderful for families. You can rent deckchairs and umbrellas for the day, use the bathrooms & showers, and have lunch or dinner at the cafes and bars on the beach. Many Venetians rent beach huts for the season and spend all day, every day here. The beach clubs are very well organized and easy to get to – just take a water bus to Lido (14 mins from Saint Mark’s) then walk up the main street Gran Viale till you reach the beach (750 metres).

WINTER ON THE BEACH

During winter the beach clubs are closed but there are a few places where you can enter the beach (from Blue Moon at the end of the main street Gran Viale, at the “murazzi”, Alberoni, and in front of the old hospital). Winter on Lido beach can be fun if it’s a clear day. The kids can run around freely. At Blue Moon entrance there are two cafes with seats on the sand even in winter.

INSIDER TIP

During winter many locals, including us, go to the beach to collect clams (“vongole”). On the right day when the tide is going out you can get a few kilo in under an hour.
